COME AND EXPLORE

A little more about Walking.

Explore Ford & Etal on signed paths, bridleways and quiet country lanes. Choose a gentle stroll or a longer countryside walk, with route leaflets available online and around the Estates.

Suggested routes:

• Heatherslaw–Etal: a two-mile walk using the Route 68 cycle path.

• Heatherslaw–Ford: four miles beside the River Till and across farmland, returning past Hay Farm.

• Hay Farm and Slainsfield from Heatherslaw: a hilly four-mile circuit with wide countryside views.

• Castle Dene from Ford: a one-mile woodland loop with slopes.

• Ford Moss from Ford village: a five-mile circuit, with an optional three-mile extension.

• Etal Moor from Etal Castle: a more demanding seven-mile circuit.

• Lyall Croft Wood from Etal Castle: a shorter 1.7-mile loop through fields and woodland.

Families can also explore the Estates’ geocaching trail. Visit the official walking page for downloadable maps and route instructions.

Before you visit

Follow the Countryside Code. Castle Dene can be wet and is unsuitable for buggies; the Lyall Croft Wood route is also difficult with a buggy. Check the official route information before setting out.
