FAQ's

  • Do we need to book in advance?
    No you do not, we do not operate booked seating except for Santa Special trains! Tickets can be purchased on the day at Heatherslaw station ticket office. We will be looking at an advance booking option in the future. Our trains do get quite busy during the summer so please do arrive plenty of time before your train to avoid disappointment.
  • Are the tickets single or return?
    All tickets are Day Open Returns, meaning you can get off the train at can return on a train later in the day. Tickets cannot be used on more than one day.
  • Do we take cash & card?
    Yes we do take cash or card.
  • When are we open?
    We are open every day of the week during the season.
  • What are your train times?
    Please see timetable on the home page.
  • Are dogs allowed on the train?
    Yes dogs are allowed and travel free. Please note that dogs should be kept on a short lead whilst on the train to ensure they do not jump out!
  • Is the Railway wheelchair accessible?
    Despite being narrow, our train has two wheelchair compartments with additional seats. Heatherslaw We have 3 hard standing disabled parking spaces and path to the platform. please note the car park is gravel. ​ Our staff will assist getting wheelchairs on to the platform. No onsite public toilets however, disabled toilets are available at the Visitor Centre. ​ Etal Between Etal Station and Etal village there is a long uphill gravel path. We have no public toilets onsite, disabled toilets are available in Etal Village.
