The Lady Augusta
The Lady Augusta is one of our original steam locomotives and has been an important part of the Heatherslaw Light Railway since the line opened in 1989. Built to 15-inch gauge by the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway, she was delivered to Heatherslaw ready to take on the role of principal steam engine from the very beginning.
For many years, Lady Augusta hauled the majority of our passenger services between Heatherslaw Station and Etal Castle, becoming a familiar and much-loved sight for visitors. Her reliable performance played a key role in establishing the railway and shaping its early years.
Since the arrival of Bunty in 2010, Lady Augusta has taken on a supporting role and is now operated as required for services and special events. She remains an important part of our fleet and a valued link to the early history of the Heatherslaw Light Railway.
